The central square is the second largest in the world. The Cathedral, (see our photos) begun in 1567 and finished in 1788, blends baroque, neoclassic, and Mexican churrigueresque architecture Cortez and his Spanish missionaries converted the Aztec, tore down their temples, and used much of the stone to construct a church on the spot of the temples that preceded it. the tomb of Agustín Iturbide, placed here in 1838.
